This was all over looked in favor of the little life that shivered at her belly, though. Alive, but only barely. She tried to move, tried to take the pup in her jaws and get up.
Moonnight fought against the weakness of her own body, finally moving her stiff body and picking up the pup. Her legs were weak and her paws bled upon standing. It took several tries, and many painful falls but eventually Moon began moving towards the towering mountains in the distance and the caves she knew were in it's sides.
In all it took a day for her to make it the to the caves. All her energy had been bled out from her running endlessly for two days, trying to evade the sentries that she knew would become her murderers if they ever caught her. It would have been easy to die in the cave, with the still pup, bleeding, and bruised limps, but she didn't. Somehow chewing on the bones left in the cave and the ice Moon pulled through. All Moon could provide the pup with was warmth, and it wasn't enough. Her life flickered like a candle's flame in the wind, and Moon feared that all her pain and effort would become nothing if Bylaem's child died.
On the energy of old bones and ice Moon began producing milk.
(From a bba plot. Before her friend dies in childbirth she asks her to save her pups from the culling the pack enforces on all litters, killing pups that are weak. Moon is only able to save one since taking more would be too much weight for her three legs, and with the sentries on her tail escapes into the mountains, where she has to cross the tundra of the Silver Mountains before making it to the Red Mountains.)
