Darkness coated the world he was now in, dull lights blossoming randomly throughout the empty, vast area. He attempted to force his lids open, tried exposing his eyes, wanted to know where the hell he was, and what was going on. He tried moving, squirming, yelping, howling. Nothing came of it, though. He was left alone in this unknown place, left to suffer, to die, to rot. Unless he was already past the suffering, had just died, and was starting to rot. His heart began to race at the thought - or was it at the thought of losing all that he had on earth, as opposed to himself? Now his breathing quickened. No, it wasn't breathing, it was just his chest heaving, trying to breathe. He could begin to feel his teeth clench, the aching thump of his chest against his ribs. Suddenly, a wave of pain surged through his head, his brain, his mind. He tried to call out, and wasn't sure if he did - maybe the sound of his pained howl was only ringing in his thoughts? He wouldn't know for sure. He tried again to move, but the only result of it was more pain, shooting through his thick head. It was like a migrane, only about 50 times worse. He thought his head would explode, imagining blood and bits of sharp edges from his skull flying into the air, soaring freely, showering upon the earth without a care. He cringed mentally, and eventually, everything went black again.

No pain. No feeling at all. Not even thinking.

It was calm, peaceful, and relieving. That short moment of incredible pain was all he thought he could take. He was soon proved wrong as another slightly weaker wave crashed on him, this time rocketing through every inch of his weak, limp body. He was left in the darkness again, trying to scream, trying to yell. It felt like his lips were sewn together. He never thought anything so insanely painful could ever happen. He tried to cry. Tried to wash away the pani with his tears. Nothing happened. He tried to writhe, tried to squirm. He stay completely still. A burning sensation fired up in his chest, licking at his heart and ribs before making its way up his throat, singing the walls of his esophagus, only growing larger. He now focused on this new fire, ignoring the aching that still rocked his frame, trying to find a way to put out the fire. It grew taller now, licking the back of his throat, teasing the very depths of his mouth, burning like the acid of his stomach. Worse than that. Just acid. Yes, burning and eating like acid, ridding him of his insides, of his tissue.

Light flooded his eyes now, a bright, blinding light, only making his headache - which was muc smaller now, but still stronger than your average - worse. His mouth gaped, but he wasn't breathing. His maw was wide open, waiting for air to pour into him, to take away the fire from his throat. His chest heaved, but nothign came in or out. Until a final heave was given and water spurted from his maw, burning his throat even more as he began to cough, turning to his side, bringing his legs into his core, squeezing his eyes shut, cringing at the pain in his brain with each cough. More water fell from his mouth like a miniature waterfall, only less beautiful. He coughed more, trying to get the last of it out. Finally done, he rolled away from the large figure before him, covering his eyes with a paw, closing his lids slowly. He took deep, painful breaths, shaking lightly from the pain that thudded in his mind with every beat of his heart. He felt absolutely exhausted now. Then he realized - what the hell just happened? - he had no idea what was going on or why it was happening. His ears flattened loosely against his skull as he tried to relax himself.

"Free...?" He asked, trying to remember who he was with, that was the only name that came to mind. As far as he could remember, he had had no other friends. "FreeRider." His voice was raspy and rough from the immense coughing and the fact that he had just coughed up a shitload of water. His head throbbed with force, and he groaned, the sound cracking. This must be what a hangover feels like, or something close. He forced a smile to his lips, realizing how pathetic he must look. Slowly, all the moments from before started to flow into his mind. The fight with FreeRider, the fight with the tiger. Another argument with FreeRider during breakfast, going swimming, and fighting with the gator. He smirked, his eyes closed, paw still slung over them. He gave a sarcastic, low chuckle. "Fucking croc," he said, not quite fully awake yet, his mind groggy with the remembrance of the past. He took a deep breathing, exhaling with a sigh. Well, now they were even, Free and himself. She had a crippled leg, and he had a massive migrane that would probably last a few days yet.

He grunted lightly and got up, sitting in a slouched position, eyes still close and facing the ground. His throat burned to no extent and he wanted to kill that crocodile. "Is that thing still in the water?" He asked her, his voice still rough. Then he changed his mind. "Never mind," and he walked toward the water slowly, dipping his maw in the water carefully, just barely cracking one eye open, cringing at the reflection of the sun off of the water's glassy surface. He groaned and closed his eyes again, taking a long drink from the water, not giving a damn if the little beast was still there. The water cooled down his throat, but didn't help much. The walls of his throat felt raw and torn, though the cold water seemed to numb it up a bit. His let his shoulders fall and he sat before the water, swallowing slowly. "How's your leg?.." He didn't really care about himself. It wasn't even a flesh wound. He'd recover faster than she will. He turned his head toward her, half-opening one eye, and cracking the other open a tiny slit. He squinted his eyes irritably, grinding his teeth together.

"And before you ask, I'm fine." He gave a light cough, which almost seemed to help his throat. There, already getting better. Hm.

Free scurried back as the male coughed, giving him room to breathe. She remained silent as she watched the sight, mucky water pouring from his mouth. Slowly, she would poke her head forward, her paw lifting as her body leaned. Her eyes seemed pained, but there was a smile on her face. Oh thank heaven he was alive. Her tail would flick, her body trembling while she suppressed himself, being sure to give him his space. Her name fell from his lips, in response her smile softened and her eyes sparkled with relief. His smile seemed to loosen her muscles, and the exhaustion in his eyes made her heart race. Then he cursed the croc sarcastically, a small chuckle emitted from her maw. It seemed things went back to normal.

As he walked toward the water, she laughed nervously, satisfied that he changed his mind about the croc. Shaking her head, she approached the male as he drank. “Good, I don’t think my leg could save you again.” She replied with a laugh. That seemed to bring a bit of concern to Kyoto. Eyes widening, she looked back at her leg, good god it was bleeding again. Cursing to herself, she bent over to lick at the wound. The flesh was torn, what scab she did have was now drifting down the river somewhere and the moisture seemed to tempt the blood to flow faster. It was odd how she didn’t even notice it for awhile. After a few licks, bearing through the horrid muck taste of the river, it started to feel better. Her ears flicked toward Kyoto before chuckling and turning to him with a smile.

“Well that’s good to know, don’t need you dying on me now.” she replied, her sarcastic playful nature returning.

Then she noticed Kyoto squinting his eyes. Her look fell from playful to a bit concerned. Glancing up at the sun, she smiled before closing her eyes. Lifting herself to all fours, she began to head toward the forest. Looking back at Kyoto, she smiled warmly at him, her eyes now more serious. “Come on…let’s get out of the light for a bit. See if there’s a shadowy path back to your den.” she suggested, waiting for him to follow her.

Kyoto ignored her words, staring at her leg which was pouring a little stream of blood from it's wound. Kyoto hissed under his breath, watching as Free licked at her leg, wiping the pain away from it. He narrowed his eyes, hiding them from the sun still. His head throbbed violently as he stared at Free's leg, wanting to find herbs for it, but too handicapped to do so. He would later. He didn't need both of them to be physically impaired. “Well that’s good to know, don’t need you dying on me now.” She said, still smiling. She was smiling a lot right in the few moments that had past. That was weird, but not unsettling. It almost sent off a calming aura, mixed with something else that Kyoto had never felt before; an emotion his body had never been introduced to. He shook it from his thoughts, his head following where FreeRider had began walking. Her body moved away from him, and it took him a moment to realize that she was hoping he would follow.

“Come on…let’s get out of the light for a bit. See if there’s a shadowy path back to your den.”

Kyoto blinked absentmindedly then followed with staggering paw steps. His tail swayed lazily behind him as he tried to catch up to her. He reached her side eventually and led them onto a thin pathway that was shadowed by towering trees and lush vegetation. He walked slowly beside her, trying to keep his mind on relaxing his brain muscles, trying to put his mind to sleep. His lemon eyes were closed to slits as his thoughts found a new course to travel on: that feeling inside of him. The one he didn't recognize. He pulled his brows together and shoved the thought away, slightly turning his head toward FreeRider.

"Are you sure your leg is okay?..." He couldn't even remember if she had answered his question verbally or not. That was the first thing that came to mind, though. Eventually, the subject would grow boring and old. He cursed himself inwardly, his mind ringing with the swearword, causing it to throb more yet.

Glad to see the male had actually managed to follow her, she smiled as she kept her eyes forward. After these past couple of days, she was anxious to make sure nothing else managed to surprise them. Darting her eyes about, she made sure to keep pressure of her back legs. It had just stopped bleeding and she planned to keep it that way. All she wanted to do at this point was get back to the den and rest. Surely it was too early for them to sleep, but considering what they just endured, she could bear through an early nap.

“Are you sure your leg is okay?” the males voice bellowed.

Looking over to him, she smiled half heartedly. “Don’t worry, as long as I can walk I’ll manage.” She replied. Maybe she seemed too happy for the severity of what happened, but she just hated being fussed over. As long as they were both alive and not fatally wounded, what was the point in being all down and worried. Of course she would watch him overnight, make sure his head pain was nothing more than a headache. Softening her face, allowing the smile to be that of content and not some uncalled for joy, she continued to talk to him. “I think we could both use a good nap…but..we forgot that deer.” She recalled.

Glancing around, she sniffed the air. Surprisingly the dear was still lying motionless not to far from them. It must have been thanks to the lack of predatory birds and it seemed no tiger caught onto the carcass. It seemed they hadn’t been gone as long as she thought. Following the smell of death, she bounded through the bushes. “Stay there! I’ll be right back.” she called out behind her. Within a few steps, she reached the previous hunting grounds where their fight started. Leaning over, she gently grasped the young fawn’s neck and dragged it back to their trail. Finally the two reached the den, allowing Kyoto to enter first, she leaned low to pull the fawn in behind her. Carefully, she watched her step and soon placed their upcoming lunch and dinner to the side.

“There…now we can just lounge the rest of the day without hunting.” she explained, her voice hushed so not to aggravated the males throbbing skull. Laying contently on the soft soil, she watched Kyotos motions.

Kyoto continued, taking note of her words about her leg, but not replying. His lemon-colored eyes glanced around him weakly, wondering what each of them did to be rewarded with their injuries. He grunted lightly, then tried to raise his spirits as FreeRider had. Suddenly, she spoke again, “I think we could both use a good nap…but..we forgot that deer.” He looked at her, accidentally moving his head too fast and cringing in pain as his head screamed in protest. He gave a sigh once the pain was gone, but opened his eyes to FreeRider's form quickly moving away from him, toward where they had hunted the deer. “Stay there! I’ll be right back.” She called from ahead. He shrugged after a short moment and continued walking toward the den slowly. Not like he'd make it far before she got there. He continued walking toward the den, and finally caught it in his sights. He saw Free coming back toward him with the deer dragging beside her. They both walked to the entrance of the den, Kyoto crawling in first, Free coming in behind him. He waited until she lay down and then he followed her lead, plopping down beside her - not close, but not far, either.

“There…now we can just lounge the rest of the day without hunting.”

Kyoto nodded, "Mhmm..." he said contentedly as he rested his head on his paws; her smooth, quiet voice very kind to his throbbing head. He was just about to close his eyes when he noticed another few dribbles of blood running down Free's leg. "Hm.." he murmured, raising himself slightly and turning toward her leg, extending his tongue to lick at her wound, wiping the blood from her fur. The taste was something he was used to, but the action was not. It felt like the right thing, though, so he followed through with it. He couldn't really tell why he had done it; it just bothered him to see her in pain. He flattened his ears against his head and finished the licking, turning back to look at Free's face. Out of nowhere, he pressed his nose into her neck fur, nuzzling her softly in the tender spot. "There.." he said softly before pulling back in shadowed surprise. He hid his face expertly from her view, letting his head fall on his forelegs, the face of his fur close to the fur of her own front legs. He closed his luminous eyes, trying to sort out what the hell he'd just done.

He really hoped she didn't mind. After a short moment, he turned his face slightly more toward her, eyes slightly questioning. His ears were still flattened against his head innocently. He didn't know what would happen next. He just wanted all of the pain to go away. So, with that, he let his lids fall over his eyes and he allowed himself to drift into a sleep full of throbbing headaches and confused thoughts and questions. Maybe when he woke up, everything would be back to normal.

But then again, he didn't want to wake up alone, either.

Obviously forest dwellers didn’t know the meaning of stay. Shrugging it off, she smiled as the male lay beside her. He seemed more relaxed now that they were out of the forest. Feeling an ooze slide down her leg, she sighed to herself, this leg was going to drive her insane. But before she could reach it, she spotted Kyoto come into view. Frozen, she just watched the male lick her wound. Her tail stiffened, the feel of his tongue lapping her felt surprisingly soothing.

Her chest tightened and she couldn’t even blink. All she could do was stare at him. How could it feel this gratifying to have another lick your wounds? Sure her siblings and family use to lick her when she got a cut, but I never felt like this. Her tongue licked her lips, resisting the urge to start panting; good heaven that seemed so slutty. Finally he stopped, she let out a breath of some relief, which she could settle down before bed, but not just yet. After meeting her eyes, his nose brushed against her fur. Hissing slightly, his breath tickling her skin, she softly leaned her head into his nearly pushing him harder against her. After what seemed like an eternity, he pulled away, looking softly at her he lay his head down.

Frees head remained still, her eyes glancing downward, shocked to what had just happened. The ebony male continued to look at her as if nothing had happened. That innocent look that all males seemed to have when they wanted to, slowly, he drifted off to sleep with his head still pointed in her direction. It was as if he was in a trance, for he never seemed to be the type to act in such a way. Finally relaxing once she knew he was asleep, Free laid her head on her own paws, looking away for a moment. What had she been thinking? Letting her emotions keep her frozen like some star struck bitch? God this living arrangement was getting too close for comfort. Gradually, her eyes drifted toward the mal beside her. And with a careful motion, she moved her body closer to his. Leaning her head up, she gently licked his cheek, nuzzling his neck in return. After a moment, she let out a canine huff and turned her body on its side. Laying her head upon his back, she too drifted off to sleep. Maybe it wasn’t as iniquitous as she thought…

A week had past and slowly the camouflage wolf was growing accustomed to the forest. The two had gone about swimming, though being sure to keep an eye out for crocs. She even managed to get in some exploring time, times in which Kyoto would follow or allow her to get some personal time as he did. But there never seemed to be a time where he took watch completely off her. Plus her relationship with the ebony male began to grow, as they bonded over sadistic hunts and long walks. Now Free hoped to lure him to some placed she managed to find in this dense wonderland, some she presumed he had never seen before. He might have been living here for awhile, but she didn’t take him for the type to wander too far from his territory; one she was slowly calling her own as well.

Stepping out of the den, Free stretched out her limbs. Yawning, she took a look at the sky. The sun was high and bright, hopefully Kyoto’s headache had faded by now. It had taken him a few days to recover, but just to be safe she tried to keep him in as much as possible. Today however, she wanted to take him out scouting the lands. Her lip poked out as she pondered what they could do.

So many days of talk, of adventure, swimming and rest; so many days of a relationship that slowly grew so much closer. It was almost like magic how they had gone from enemies at first sight to something that one - who did not know better, sheesh - would call love. Suddenly, Kyoto jumped out of his sleep, as though the thought had startled him to consciousness. He glanced around the den, immediately finding no one beside him. His eyes fell slightly wider opened and he let out a tiny whimper. Finally, his groggy eyes spotted her, standing half way out of the den. He felt stupid now - not for whimpering about her absence, but for thinking she would actually leave him alone without saying at least good bye. He rose silently to his paws, stretching his stiff muscles, still glad that his four day migraine had gone away completely. He could face the world now and not have to worry about the sun penetrating his eyes. He brushed his tail against the dirt ground of the den and then was fully awake.

Now, as he was hoping to get the day moving, he sunk low to the ground, crawling toward the back of Free's legs. He was glad she was better, too, for she could now walk much easier, though it would be a little while yet before she could travel any great distances or anything of the like - thank god! Kyoto didn't want her to be going anywhere anytime soon. Whatever they were building between them was only starting. So much more could happen here... So many memories have yet to be built between them..

He shook the thoughts from his head, continuing forward, keeping himself unnoticed - hopefully, as far as she knew, he was still sleeping like most mornings. He padded forward, keeping his eyes on her body, more memories flooding into his mind: like how when they retreated to the den to fall asleep, they may start off only side by side, a head on the others shoulder, and when they woke up, tails would be curled with each others, bodies pressed tightly against each other, warmth flowing through the non-existent space between them.

He dragged himself back to reality, his heart slightly fluttering. His eyes narrowed playfully and he made the move before anymore mushy thoughts could enter his brain. He lunged forward slightly, nipping playfully at the bone of her 'heel', yelping lightly. He then bumped her out of the den, being careful of her still-healing leg. He then stood in the entrance of the den, laughing at her with bright eyes. "Good morning," he chuckled, hoping he had startled her, but also hoping she wouldn't mind what he had just done.

He walked out of the den fully and faced her, his expression full of life for once. It was good to be back - back in his new self. "What's on the list for today, Rider?" He had come to calling her this, since he figured most people called her Free. He wanted to be different. It seemed as though so far, he was succeeding. He smiled at her softly, his yellow eyes boring into her frosty blue orbs kindly. He black fur rippled lightly in the morning breeze, blowing fresh, crisp scents into his nostrils. It was a nice day today: warm with a small, cool breeze, perfect for almost anything in the forests. He tried to think of what he would be doing now before he had met FreeRider, but came up blank. It was like ever since she had entered his life, his past one had been slowly erased. Perhaps that was a good thing: nothing to dwell on, nothing to keep in the way of what could be happening.

Kyoto had been surprising himself lately. He'd grown into a more playful wolf, but still help that bitterness deep inside of him - it rarely showed with Rider around, but they did still disagree about small things which passed quickly. He was just having troubles finding the loving, affectionate wolf inside of him. He'd never used it before. He'd never had a reason to. But did he now? How was he supposed to know? He wasn't sure what Rider thought the two of them were - friends? more than that? - and so he didn't want to make any stupid assumptions. He would just leave it at Rider and himself. No titles needed. At all.

He smiled at Rider again, his tail swaying every so slightly. "Anything in mind?" He prompted with his deep, slightly dull voice.

Letting out her own little yelp, she barked playfully, turning to Kyoto with a low growl. Her body hunched playfully as she leapt around him, now in the mood for playing. Now that he was out of the den, she playfully nipped his neck before jolting back and barking. She was acting more like a humans pet the more she was around him. Letting out a laugh, she settled down and sat on the ground. Her tail whipped against the grass as he greeted her. “And good morning to you. It seems you’re in tip top shape again.” she replied, a cheesy smile on her face. Then he asked about what her plans were for the day, in which her face returned to its thought process look.

Her eyes glanced to the sky, lip perked out as if she was having an inner discussion with herself. Where would they go today? She wanted to think of something special, a place she was certain the male had never seen. It was a thing of hers, finding places the locals never noticed before. Apart of her childishly hoped that after seeing what they were missing, she would leave behind a new generation of explorers. Slowly the femme’s mind drifted back to earth, finally hitting with a revelation. Mouth agape, she suddenly looked excited.

“I know! I found this place a few days ago.” She explained.

Bounding forward, she was already heading into the forest. After a minute, she wandered back to stand next to Kyoto. It wasn’t easy for her to wait up, but she was learning to relax and wait for the male to walk alongside her rather than attempting to keep up. Free was just a spacey spaz at times, considered flighty even, but for Kyoto she was learning to slow down. Now keeping a steady pace with him, she continued to explain to Kyoto about what they would be doing.

“It’s this place near the mountains. Have you ever been there?” she asked, the anxious joy reflecting in her eyes.
