Souls in the wind.. {Mothers or pups/Anyone}

Post by The Yena Queen » 15-03-2010 23:41

"MOM!" A small voice echoed over the mountains. The rather high pitched whimper of a small male pup broke the silence of the land, which had been loud with growls, threats and barks only moments ago. Pattering paws of a tiny puppy sounded over the land as Keto made his way over boulders and pebbles. A small, gradually growing rumble of thunder shook the land, making Keto's heart race. The young wolf crept to the side of a steep hill, looking over the side. "Mom!" He called, his tiny voice bouncing off of the walls of the tall rock canyons. The once blue sky was hidden behind a thin veil of silver clouds, and the scent of rain was heavy in the air. There would no doubt be a storm approaching. Another low thunder boom threatened Keto with a deep growl, sending the trembling pup half skidding and half running down the side of the mountain. "MOMMA!!" He called. Again there was no reply but the wind picking up in a howl around him.
A raindrop landed on his nose, and he looked up into the gray sky. Keto usually loved the rain, he would leap and try to capture the drops while his mother watched nearby. But today was different. His mother was nowhere to be found.

After those strange looking wolves had attacked him and his mother, he had fled, listening to his mother's hissed voice as she warned him to run. Hiding behind a boulder, Keto watched frozen in fear as his mother bravely fended off the mutts. As he thought she would finish the fight unharmed.. she received a blow that knocked her off balance and sent her falling into the ravine.
Suddenly, the terrified pup picked up the scent of something familiar. Something warm, friendly and safe to him. His mother..
Feeling a little bit calmer, Keto stood up and shook small bits of gravel from his fuzzy puppy coat. Ignoring the quickening pace of the rain around him, Keto raced towards the scent of his mother, whimpering and calling out in a terrified voice for his mother.
Soon, the exhausted Keto stopped, panting hard as his little brown eyes scanned the area. Soon, his eyes caught a large, dark shape off in the distance. His jaw dropped slightly and his ears perked. It was his mother!! He wagged his tail furiously and leaped towards the shape, but stopped dead in his tracks a few feet from her. Something was seriously wrong with her... She hadn't greeted him with a kiss on his head, like usual.
"Mom.." He spoke, breathing hard as a lump for formed in his throat. His mother's ear perked weakly, and she turned her head towards Keto. "Keto.." She attempted to speak, but broke out in a coughing fit as soon as the words left her mouth. Blood spattered the ground from her gaped mouth, and she lay her head back down and laboriously breathed a little more. "Momma... get up..." Keto began, his eyes watering slightly. What was wrong with his mother? Then, he thought... Those strange wolves had hurt her! "Momma, please get up..!" He squealed, nudging her still paw as she attempted to move once more. Front legs trembling furiously, her face pulled back in a grimace of pain, the she-wolf tried desperately to stand.. and fell back to the ground once more. "Keto.. I can't.."She said weakly. "MOMMA.. you HAVE to get up!!" The baby turned his small ears backwards and whimpered as tears slid from his eyes.
"My son.." He opened his eyes as his mother spoke once more. "You have to be brave.. for both of us..." She attempted a smile, but began to cough once more. Keto looked down and noticed a large, strange looking mark on his mother's side. Blood was pouring from the wound. "But why do I have to be brave, you'll be with me!!" He cried.. ears flattened on his head. The she-wolf drew out her tongue and licked her son reassuringly, leaving a small smear of blood on his forehead. His tears dripped onto the ground at his paws, and he understood that his mother wasn't going to be coming with him..
The she-wolf flinched as the pup nuzzled up against her side and pushed gently beneath her outstretched paw. "Keto..." She spoke once more.. but found herself too weak to say much more. She was fading and fast. The mother feared for her baby, not for herself. Who would care for her son after she was gone? A tear slipped down her snout as she thought that soon after her death, Keto's would follow.
"Keto... I'll always be with you... I love you." She said. "Don't lose your way-" She broke into a fit of choking and spluttering on her own blood.. but thought as she did so. She had one chance to save her son, and she would take it. Lifting her head weakly after spitting out a large amount of blood, she let out a loud but weak howl. With it, she sent a message. "Come quickly, save my son." The sound of life fading from her grew stronger, and after a quick, pained yelp, the mother lay still on the ground.. and she wasn't getting up. Keto then sensed something was wrong, broke out in a fit of sobs, and looked at his mother. Her eyes were sealed shut, and she had stopped breathing.

"MOMMA!!??" He called, licking her face desperately. No reply. "MOM!!" He shouted in her ear. He bit her, hoping to get her to wake. Perhaps she was merely sleeping. No reply once more. "MOM!!!"
For one so young, one who barely understood death, to lose his mother is a tragic thing. Keto drew back from his mother quickly, and back a few steps away from the motionless body. He lifted his head to the sky.. and let out a tiny, grieving howl into the heavens. He hoped that wherever she was now, she would hear him.. and come back to him..

decided i'd give a response :) i hoep that's okay with you luma? :) ))

Not too far from where the tragedy between a mother and son occured, a wolf whose colors were of tans, browns, and tints of yellow came trudging along. His nose was high, and he looked to see that there was a storm approaching. Eyes narrowed, he had made his way through the rugged terrain. He looked tired, perhaps exhausted from the trip he had just taken. An escape to freedom. Halfway from where the canundrum had taken place, rain droplets began to fall before they mercifulessly matted the dry land, quickly turning the dust into mud and puddles. Rain quickly drenched this wolf's fur, and already he growled lowly to himself. He was not always this annoyed at little things. In fact, before, he was quite cheerful and carefree. He loved his life, and he enjoyed every waking minute. Ever since that day... everything had changed. His name was Tsuna, but he was known as Quicksand both for his swift speed and his color pallete of fur. Humans had such strange names. He had been in living hell for who knows how long, Tsuna couldn't remember. He wanted to forget rather than relive those memories. It left him bitter and hardened in his heart. It was hard to trust. The fellows he was around had softened the blow, but the memories of suffering and despair still trailed into his mind.

Tsuna continued to make his way through this rain. God damn... he had to find shelter. Suddenly though, a howl came to his ears. A pathetic, dying, howl. A howl he was used to hearing as a final breath. But, the howl was also a request... A pup. For a moment, Tsuna's eyes flickered to what could have been a moment of reflection. A pup, losing their mother. Huh... ironic. Although Tsuna wasn't a pup, he had lost his mother when he was captured. How sad... Tsuna collected his thoughts again before trudging off to the sound. He'd accept the request of the dying mother.

The loud booms of thunder and crackling arose as the rain began to turn into a storm. The clouds thickened, and darkness spread across the deserted landscape. What sounded like a wet cat's shriek came to Tsuna's ears. He was getting closer. In range, he saw a little, huddled, wet figure howling to their deceased parent. Cautiously approaching, he looked massive standing over the pup as the rain poured.

"You.." he grunted. "What's your name..."

((Not a problem at all :D))
No sooner had Keto finished his cry and had settled down beneath his mother's still paw, a voice spoke to him.
"You.." he grunted. "What's your name..."

With a small gasp, Keto looked through the rain up at the stranger. His ears turned backwards, and his heart began to race. Was it one of those strange wolves? Back to finish him off? He whimpered, but remebered what his mother had said. He had to be brave, for both of them. Sniffling from a mixture of the cold rain and his sobbing, Keto tried to get up the courage and answer the stranger's question.
"Keto.." He said. His eyes still leaking tears, the little boy looked back to his mother's still body, and up at the stranger again.
"My... my mom.. tried to save me.. those wolves.. they hurt her..!"
He tried to speak through his sobbing and shut his eyes tightly for a moment. "She isn't dead... is she..?" He whimpered, and stood up. He took a few hesitant steps towards the figure, but looked back to his mother once more. What if she wasn't dead? What if she woke up, and couldn't find him..? He thought hard, then looked to the adult wolf. Perhaps he could help her.. if it wasn't too late..

For a moment, Tsuna could see the pure terror in the pup's eyes, but it seemed replace with something that set a spark. Was it... bravery? He let out a small grunt that turned into what looked like a pity sneer when he saw Keto still sobbing, but finding strength to answer the simple question. The small pup's name was Keto. Keto... hm... For a moment, Tsuna's eyes softened. Poor thing, without their mother now at such a young age. Tsuna was lucky to have had his mother for at least a year before they were separated, and she was killed. The older wolf even felt sorry that he at first wished to snap at this pup who had no spine. Tsuna felt heartless, and it was all because of that damned prison...

As the pup explained what had happened to Tsuna, the scene played well in his mind. A brave, heroic mother had taken care of fiends that had come to wreak havoc. In saving her child, her life was taken from her. He could see the nasty wounds bestowed upon her body... He sighed. At least they didn't ruin her dignity... He looked down at the pup, who took a few steps toward him. In turn, he coiled back a moment, tail beginning to raise. But he had to remember this was a pup he was looking at. He couldn't believe how cruel he was acting. Sighing, he looked to the pup, his eyes unintentionally glaring before he walked over to the broken body. He examined her well before he took her by the back of her lifeless scruff, and hauled her onto his back. He took a few steps forward before looking to Keto.

"C'mon." he said. "We need to give your mother a proper burial." Tsuna figured from there the pup would understand that this meant his mother would never be coming back.

"What're.." Keto started as the wolf picked up his mother. In his mind, Keto knew nothing could be done for his mother, but his heart couldn't accept that she was dead..
Eyes wide, the pup watched as he lifted his mother onto his back. A few tears slipped form his sad brown eyes as he held back more sobs. *Be brave..* He told himself.. *Be brave for mom..*

"C'mon." he said. "We need to give your mother a proper burial." Tsuna figured from there the pup would understand that this meant his mother would never be coming back.

Keto sniffled a little and lifted his paws to follow. They felt heavy with sorrow and grief, but he managed to follow the adult. His eyes were now red and blurry from the rain and his tears, but he held his head high, even though his ears and tail drooped. The little pup couldn't bare to look at his mother's limp body without a sob escaping his maw, his eyes darting quickly away.. A crack of thunder rang in his ears, making him jump a little. During a storm like this, he would hide from the rain in a warm den, his mother telling him stories of legendary wolves and creatures. Little did he know that things were just about to change for him, forever..

As Tsuna and the pup, Keto, continued their way through the thickening storm, the older wolf had been surprised as Keto jumped. He stopped, and looked to the pup. "Get underneath me." he instructed. "May not be much, but at least it'll protect you from the rain." He waited for Keto to do so before continuing. "A good place to put her to rest is a bit downwind. Can you make it?" he asked. It was foolish to ask a pup if he could make it downwind... especially if it could take hours. He sighed. He wanted to give this mother a nice place, but with the rain, he could risk the pup's health. They had to find somewhere to rest... But where?

"Hey." he said to Keto. "We need to find a resting spot. Somewhere warm. He picked the pup up in his maw before he started to trot faster, Keto's mother's body still firmly on his back. He figured it'd stay there if he picked up the pace... the rain was getting more and more intense... It didn't take long, more like minutes to reach a good spot to rest. Placing Keto down before settling his mother's body, he said, "Get some sleep. Tomorrow, if it's bright out, we can go downwind to send your mother's spirit off, with dignity instead of on such a dark atmosphere." he said, lying down with his head resting on his paws, watching the pup, wondering what he'd do next.

It was obvious to Tsuna what Keto would do. Probably cry, curl up to his deceased mother's body, whine a bit more. Then fall asleep into nightmares with tears still rolling down his cheeks. Poor kid... at some point, Tsuna would have cleaned him off. But because of his past.. the feeling of more affection had already been fed to the wild.

(( jumping in too!!))

The sky was getting darker, aided by the thick clouds and rain, blocking out the late evenings small amount of sun.

"Pitty.." a brown wolf was watching the darkness roll across the land before her. She lay at the entrance of a thin, tall cave barely a sliver, when compared to the large mountain nestled itself in.
The female's tail twitched as she felt the moisture in the air sneak into her cave, making it feel sticky.
She had just found the shelter, so her soft fur had not a drop of water on it. She rested her head on her silver and tan tipped paws and thought. Had she heard a howl earlier? It had sounded sad.. But she couldn't be sure. She looked around her cave, it was roomy enough save for the limp creature in the corner. She licked her lips as she looked at the spotted creature, but restrained herself with a soft chuckle.
Her thoughts returned to the howl.. That howl.. Its sounded so pained, and clearly female... Perhaps they needed help? Her eyes continued to watch the rain. Well.. she pondered on, if they need help they are probably looking for a place to get out of the rain..

She hauled her fit figure to her paws and took the few pawsteps to the entrance before clearing her throat with a cough, and letting out a strong howl, simply saying "I am here". She drew back into the cave and frowned at her now damp head which she had stuck out of the cave.
