+ But Keep Your Enemies Close... --

Mother: Daishi Thomas :dead:
Father: Kale Kingston :dead:

+ You'll Watch As We Change... --

Curvy enough, but not overweight in any way. She does not believe in implants and claims that what she has is all hers (although the subject remains debatable). She has a skull marking on her face, something she takes pride in (what better for your enemies to see in their last moments - the face of death). Her hair is naturally bright red, but she dyes strands of it black at regular intervals. Even if she's deadly, she's still a female, and therefore is subject to that strange little obsession for preening.

Her outfit is entirely leather - trenchcoat, pants, boots, and gloves are all genuine leather (some from different animals).

She always has one of three emotions plainly on her face: a cruel sneer, an annoyed glare, or a thoughtful sort of expression. Only in extreme situations will she become enraged, but never fearful.

+ I'll Watch You Scream... --

Tourniquet is vicious. She has very little respect for life and takes it as needed. She takes few prisoners, and those that are brought before her instead of shot on sight are quickly disposed of when their skills are no longer of use. She is not lazy, however, and will not hide in Usare's HQ. She frequently ventures out into the city, traveling by rooftop, usually followed closely by her second-in-command or by her old faction soldiers. She does not feel comfortable around anyone else and makes that clear with a bullet in the head or (more likely) a swift kick and a strong verbal warning.

She does, however, enjoy the suffering of her enemies, especially that of politicians, however obscure they are. She frequently kills particularly hated enemies herself instead of leaving them to her subordinates.

As cruel as she is, she does think of the Usare gang as a surrogate family... and as the acting mother of that family, she teaches them the ways of life... the hard way.

+ As We Go Down Down Down... --

Born into a less-than-normal family, she came into the world as Nathalie Jay Kingston. Her father was less than patriotic, while her mother was soft-spoken but had a thing for cigarettes that ended her life shortly after Nathalie turned five. Both of her parents loved her very dearly, and so her father, Kale, made up his mind to raise his daughter into a respectable, responsible young lady.

He tried, he really did, but the loss of her mother destroyed much of Nathalie's innocence. From the quiet, happy little girl that she was, she slowly turned inward, becoming almost reclusive in her habits. She had few friends to begin with, and gradually she and her father lost contact with them. Sometimes, when Kale sat in his recliner, sure that Nathalie was too busy with her toys or coloring books in the next room to pay attention, the little girl listened intently as he cursed his country over everything its leaders did. At only six years old, she became disgusted with her father as he berated their country for even good things, instead twisting these occurances into conspiracies or hidden dictatorships. Why couldn't he understand, she thought, that they were only trying to do right by the people? That they were trying to make her father's life and her life better? And by the time she was seven, she knew what she wanted to do with her life, and kept it a secret from her father.

When she turned sixteen - as was the law in her country - she could join the country's military. She applied the day after her birthday. Needless to say, her father was infuriated. He only hit her once, raised his hand to strike her again, but was quickly disabled by a swift movement on Nathalie's part as she grabbed her father's arm and twisted it behind his back in a manner that kept him from moving. The martial arts lessons that she'd been in since she was twelve years old were for this moment, and would be useful elsewhere. As he squirmed against her grip in vain, she told him that she was leaving, that she wouldn't ever come back. And without another word, she slipped away out the front door, the backpack slung over her shoulder containing only a few items of clothing, her toothbrush, her hairbrush, and a picture of her late mother. She never cried.

She was officially accepted into the military only weeks later. Starting out in the lowest ranking, she quickly worked through the ranks by her wide range of abilities and sheer skill at which she used them. By the time she was nineteen, she had worked her way into the special ops team then known as "VIPER." She was the youngest of all of them, and therefore was slow to fit in, but after a few missions with close calls in which Nathalie was their sole savior, they came to respect her. Eventually they accepted her as their unofficial leader, and she earned the nickname "Tourniquet" from her uncanny ability to get their asses out of certain death more times than any of them could count.

Then, on one mission to a contested territory that was crucial to win the war, Nathalie and her team were dropped into a highly volatile area with limited cover. In other words, they were sitting ducks. They had not been informed of the current status of the area and were taken aback by the fact that they were not told of the lack of cover. It was a wasteland. They had flown over a few soldiers a few miles back, and they had been aided by tanks, heading this way. They were armed only with handguns, one sniper (held by Nathalie), and perhaps three anti-armor rockets; not even close to enough to take on a faction of the size of the one that was coming. It had only occurred to them at this moment that they might have been set up... Luckily enough they all knew what to do in a situation like this -- run like hell.

As it turned out, they had been dropped into the very heart of the territory, the only save haven in a separate country perhaps one hundred miles away. Between the drop site and safety were enemy soldiers armed with more ammunition than Nathalie's team had. Perhaps three of her fifteen soldiers were dead and gone by the time they crossed the border. Their bodies were never recovered. Using a radio in the possession of the friendly soldiers they called for help from their own army. There was never any answer. They ended up flying back on a foreign military flight meant for transferring soldiers. None of them returned to what they had hoped for - their families were intact (except for Nathalie's, of course), but they soon found that their careers were not. Every one of them had been presumed dead days ago. Records of a search were claimed to exist but none were ever shown. "The war is over anyway," their superiors had said. They were all discharged only hours after their return.

One by one they separated, promising to keep in touch. Nathalie was the most devastated. She had nowhere to go, no one to contact. In time she remembered how to act in society and began to rent an apartment close to the base, but she never contacted her father.

Then, tragedy. Only one month after their retirement, Nathalie was talking to one of her comrades on the phone. He had asked her to dinner, along with two others of the VIPER squadron. They were discussing times when suddenly he became very nervous. He explained he was in his car, driving to the store, and that someone in a black SUV with a federal license plate was looking at him suspiciously... And then he dropped his phone... and there was a screech of tires over the line. Nathalie could only listen as she heard the crunch of metal and a few gunshots before the line went dead.

She didn't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that this was planned by someone higher up.

At her comrade's funeral, she refrained from the usual black attire. Only her old soldiers would be there anyway. Instead, she dressed in her old military outfit, which had been extensively modified into a trenchcoat and leather pants, both of which were laced with kevlar for protection. Throughout the procedures, her comrade's stole glances at her, knowing something was coming. And as the unwanted staff left, she announced that they would no longer serve the government in any way. In fact, they were going against it. When they gave her troubled looks, she explained what she had heard over the phone the night their friend had died. Suddenly, none of them questioned her. Every one of them saluted, and agreed that measures were to be taken.

And so they migrated to Akhtari City, where at the time peace was only a glint in the distance. The police force was spread thin due to the fact that not much could be done to save the city. And so it was easy for them to sink their claws into the very heart of Akhtari, taking it as easily as bullets from a dead man. With Nathalie - now taking the name Tourniquet alone - at the top and VIPER - now Red Night - alongside her, the Usare quickly rose to power, collecting soldiers and thugs wishing to bite back at the police force that had kept them in the shadows. Quickly earning the nickname "the Blood Brotherhood," they struck fear into every one of the inhabitants of Akhtari... And as their powers grew, so did Tourniquet's bloodlust. Suddenly everyone that questioned her was as good as dead - NO ONE ever questioned her.

And so the Usare became her haven, her family, her one snap at the government that sought to destroy her. And she will not, CANNOT tolerate retaliation from anyone.
